"When are you getting married?"

Yeah, I guess I officially hit that age where family start asking me that question. Granted, the reason the question was presented because two of my cousins, who happen to be a couple of years older than I, are getting married this fall, but still, I thought I had time...

So I was at our banquet/cookout/cook-in with my family and I was sitting at the table with my cousins from California. This couple was the parents of one of my cousins who are getting married. So she asked me,

"Does your mom like your boyfriend?"

...and you know I'm naturally an awkward individual, so I just chuckled and smiled. Usually if I smile the person is just usually lost in the milky exterior that is my smile...but that shit didn't work (time to change my toothpate). So she continued,

"you don't have a boyfriend? Are you not interested or want to be bothered with a boyfriend right now? Do you want a boyfriend?"

Now I'm like, "huh? Is she asking me if I'm going through a gay phase??" Lol "what does she mean am I interested in boys? Wtf? Am I 12?"

So I look over at my mom for help...and this bitch was doing everything BUT trying to help me...she aint real. I started to feel hot, got a little flustered, and it took everything in me to hold back from saying,

"well i was in a relationship w/ a guy I really loved but he cheated and the baby was born yesterday!"

Instead, what came out was,

"*chuckle*, ha, um, I, yeah, I want a boyfriend"

...and I felt this look quickly spread across my face. A look of despair, uncertainty and I just felt as if I looked absolutely pitiful. So I cleaned it up with a chuckle, and a half grin. She saw it too (shit), I know she did bec she said,

"You're just looking for someone to keep up with you. Ain't that right?!"

So she let me agree and dropped the subject...

Later my aunt probed the same way so I used the fact that they were older than me as an excuse...it ain't work. She decided that she wanted to point out that we were still in the same "age range"...

Thanks again Aunt Mamie...

Until next time...
