There's Just Something About...

Frank Ocean. I know you've heard his name quite often lately and probably wonder who in the hell he is...well, now you're about to know.

Born Christopher Breaux (I hope I spelled it correctly) from New Orleans, Lord knows I love me a country boy. He's recently popped up on the scene via OFWGKTA but he's been out for a minute. He's written a couple of songs for Beyonce & John Legend.



Ocean's mixtape 'Nostalgia', which debut'd earlier this year, is the absolute bee's knee's. From the first listen, I was hooked. What Coldplay fan can listen to his rendition of "Strawberry Swing" and not instantly fall in love? The mixtape is essentially an ode to other musicians/bands. In addition to the "Strawberry Swing" remake, he sample's MGMT's "Electric Feel" for the song, "Nature Feels". The first line states, "I've been meaning to fuck you in the garden...", you had me at hello :-)

My absolute favorite song on the album is American Wedding. It actually took a while for me to get the feel of the song, but whn I did, I was hooked. The song tells the story of the brief marriage between he and his young girlfriend. Instead of getting actual rings, they decided to be chic-modern and get ring/tattoo's...if only the relationship was that forever and definite. The most heartfelt line of the song is:


"you can have my mustang/that's all I got in my name/but Jesus Christ don't break my heart, this wedding band won't ever wipe off/ but if you stay, if you stay..."

For some reason, that line hits me to my core... Anyway, I really can't pinpoint the one reason I love Ocean, could it be his looks? Could it be his superb writing skills? Could it be fact that he's from one of my favorite cities? Hm, I have no idea...it's just something about him.
